recently bought a 2001 mk4 AUM 20v Turbo and love it to bits, but, iv just had it up on the ramps (changing the springs over) and noticed traces of oil around the underside of the engine/gearbox and 'i think' iv traced it to around the turbo area? i have spoken to a guy in Dyno Demon (located in neston, Wirral) but he wasnt much help, he basically told me to take the turbo off myself, give it to him and then he will send it off for a rebuild! minimum charge of £300! but considering he didnt even have a look at my car how would he even know it needs rebuilding? bare in mind he was sat in another car whilst i ask for his opinion! so i just nodded and walked away! some help he was!
i really need someone who knows what there looking for to help me! someone else i know has told me it could just be a tiny split in one of the pipes? but i wouldnt know where to look!
the car still runs fine, i havnt noticed any loss in performance and as i always check the dipstick for oil levels i havnt even noticed a big drop in that either, apart from the usual.
if someone could point me to someone else who doesnt mind sparing 10mins of there time to have a glance over it that would be great!
i hear R-tech are good with this kind of stuff but i really dont want to drive over 2hrs for a 10min inspection an drive all the way back again!
any suggestions?
