Speed awareness course tomorrow...
« on: 05 August 2011, 22:48 »
Tomorrow I'm heading into sunny Wolverhampton to attend a speed awareness course. They gave me the option of this or the 3 points, jumped at the chance! Still raging about the whole speeding fine...the bastard was sat on the exit to a blind bend on a duel carriageway for god sake!

Anyone else been on one these, what am I to expect?

played this game last september, i was expecting to get told off for 4 hours or how ever long it was. turned out that everybody was there for the same reason and you and myself (avoiding the points). theres a couple of school type group activities, other than that it was just common sense seminars and a few giggles really, with free tea and biscuits

Its boring and 3 hours long. A bit like watching Lord of the Rings but without the homosexual tension.

I don't think a semi will give the same results

So the "homosexual tension" was exciting for you then?

I should have clarified; that was on screen, not off screen...

Otherwise I might not have been quite so bored

A Freudian slip, also called parapraxis, is an error in speech, memory, or physical action that is interpreted as occurring due to the interference of some unconscious ("dynamically repressed") wish, conflict, or train of thought .......mmmmmm...

Dare I say I learnt nothing from that 4 hour long course. I choose to speed, foolishly. It wasn't like my foot slipped on the gas and then I continued doing 74 in a 60!
It was informative to older drivers (I'm 22) who may need to brush up on their high way code etc. Was shocking how many people didn't know what some signs mean!!

And this probably had nothing to do with you not paying enough attention to your driving then?   (Sorry I get these excuses every damn day and it's usually because you're looking for someone else to blame but yourself).

The course itself is dull (I went as a mystery shopper) but if you pay attention you do learn a few things. And it is frightening how little other people know of the Highway Code. There's always stuff you think you know and you find out it's totally wrong!

Keeping schtum. Mostly.

Are you in the Police force or something to do with road safety? I obviously would like someone else to blame, but in the end I definitely knew I was speeding. I have no doubt I will still speed on certain roads. (Not around schools/residential areas etc) The thing that gets me is the vans choosing of location and time! I would be able to understand if I had been doing 45 past a school at 3 in the afternoon, but 74 in 60 on a huge open road in the middle of the day on a Sunday. IMO it is another way of funding for the gvt/police.
