Could have got a complete kart with loads of spares for less. I know it's the fun part building it up as well though. I sold my rotax max for less than £1500 with tons of spares and consumables and all my race suits and gloves. Granted it was a bit older and probs could have done with a rebuild though!

That's why I'm doing it this way. I need an engine which is practically new. I'm aware that for £1000 you can buy a complete kart, but it's going to have lots of hours on the engine and the chassis will probably be pretty old.

mate used to race karts quite seriously. started with 125's and moved up to 250 gearbox in the end.

the 125's were fun but they never really seemed that fast but were ok once they got going,  the 250 gearbox on the other hand that was bloody quick.

but he made the mistake of takeing the piss out of the kart my mate less bought just to piss about with just happend twigworth brake bikes and it ended up with an engine that was significantly bigger folled by one that was much bigger

took it on a testing day at pembray  and got banned     rear wheels were good for 4 sets of tyers   rear slicks would do 6-12 miles
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

I'd quite like to race them rather than pay £100+ to do a few laps
