mk3 golf window regulator resetting???

Need urgent help,
I bought a 2nd hand window regulator for my mk3 GTi and it only goes up a bit at a time, and rang the scrappy and they said that it needs to be reset but have not heard of this.
I was wondering if anybody has heard of this and knows how to reset it?
Also I have a loud rattling sound when above 4500rpm, not heatshields as ive checked them.

No such thing as resetting a window regulator. Its mechanical not electronic so their talking sh!te. If your rattling is coming from the rear  , it can only really be heatshield or exhaust/hangers. Poke your head under when its happening to pinpoint it.
