That’s a great guide. I used that one when changing my rears. Although I was unable to get my calliper carriers off as the spline bolts were too tight. And therefore couldn’t get my discs off due to the lack of space and being rusted on. Was a bit gutted but at least it was only my pads that really needed changing.

There is an important tool you will require to twist the rear pistons back in. I got mine from Amazon, would have been pretty impossible without it.

Gutter!
Did you try penetrating fluid and the breaker bar?

This forum just keeps getting better and better, I had no clue that we got a discount on Euro Car Parts ha ha!

I need a set of front and rear pads and disks. I have an 05 GTI and after putting in my reg I am confronted with a few choices from Pagid. I was looking at the front disks first but I am confussed as to which ones I need? They are all different thicknesses and stuff, and because it is brakes I am after I want to make sure I get the right ones.

Sorry to highjack the thread, and thanks in advance.

Hi mate

Drop me a PM with your reg and i'll check.

by the looks of it there's a choice depending on what size discs are fitted on your car
280mm
288mm
312mm
345mm

i'll use your reg and see if the VW system narrows it down!

I replaced my rear pads and discs about 6 weeks ago. In hindsight I didn't need to replace the disc, I only needed to knock the edge/ lip off, but new ones on now.
It took me about and hour and a half to do both as I wasn't that confident about about it.
I bought my parts from VW as they were cheaper than TPS.
Just take your time and follow the guide.
Saved myself about £100 and I now have a bottlejack and the piston rewind tool, so can do it again when needed.

Hi mate

where did you get your 14mm triple square bit from??

Doh, just realized your's is a GTI, so I don't know if the rear calipers are significantly different

I changed mine on a GT TDI, and I didn't need the 14mm triple square socket.
I unscrewed both top and bottom bolts with a 13mm & 15mm spanner and the caliper slid off the carrier with a bit of persuasion.

I followed this guide on UK-MKIVs http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/281928.aspx
