4 new centre caps and......
« on: 03 August 2011, 17:55 »
Went to my dealer today to get them to replace the centre caps under warranty and I pointed out one of my wheels that has a small mark on it that looks like the very early stages of white worm.

They agreed and have ordered me a brand new wheel

My dealer seem to impress everytime I go there...

It's good to hear something positive said about a dealer.  Normally all we get are the moans and groans (most of them deserved admittedly), so it is reassuring to see the good reports too.

I liked the way my dealer supplied me with a ~40 page report including copies of the TPS reports for what they fixed.  I was suprised at that, but i think i scared them and they knew i had previously worked in the trade.

My centre caps are fine, but I went to my dealer last week as I have a small spot appearing starting next to the centre cap on one wheel - looks like white worm. He agreed but didn't offer to replace the wheel right away; he wants me to wait until after another winter and see how they are then. He says he will get me another full set. Three of the wheels are still in virtually perfect condition with no sign of white worm, so I'm not sure what his game is [if any]. Not sure whether he's just giving me the brush off hoping I'll let it drop [He's wrong if he thinks that] I've heard a few bad reports about the dealer I use so will make sure I follow it up.

Be careful as claiming in the 3rd year is a nightmare from experience with VW as VWuk cover the cost for the 3rd year not VW themselfs so they try and get out of it.

Yeah the warranty manager told me that in the third year they prefer to refurb the wheel instead of replace it.

I'd push for a replacement now.

Cheers,

well just to give you guys something to think about..

i had white worm on mine.. (look at one of my previous threads)

had no issues with them willing to "replace"

booked it in, waited for 2 hours.. yup 2 hours.. by the time it was done it was pissing it down big time.. never checked it as assumed it would be fine with it been replaced.

when the weather dried off i cleaned the car.. turned out the wheel they gave me wasnt even painted properly looking like when they sprayed the black inbetween the spokes, they never even did the back and so directly behind the spokes was unpainted gray.. even in the wheel bolt holes they were half painted..

took me 3 weeks of battling ... with their comments of "thats how it came from the factory."

i had to explain to them that quality control wasn't their strong point, a half painted wheel should have been picked up on, it should never have been put on by the mechanic/tyre fitter

and if it was a body panel if it came half painted would they say its acceptable? eventually after knocking some common sense into them they agreed to replace. the wheel now is perfect and when it come they said they could see the difference.. yeah no crap sherlock.

i also pointed out saying "i bet when people buy cars here and then come back with small issues with the car you never see them again at this dealership to buy another other than those that don't care about cars other than transport from a to b..." the guy had no comment... i said to him i tried buying a car from you guys and with cash in the bank to buy outright you couldnt even sell me a gti i was buying anyways...

he said he will speak to the manager and get him to ring me to speak to me about the service ive been given from sales to service...

guess what.... no call.. lol

so just make sure you check the work a dealer does on your car... it can vary

.............he wants me to wait until after another winter and see how they are then.

Make sure you have his name etc as he may well be moving on and trying to pull a fast one!

As for whiteworm, Do VW acknowledge they have a problem and is it actually known as "Whiteworm" to them?
Reason I ask is I have it on one of my wheels and can just see it being a battle with them to replace it.

Strange though the wheel that has it is only about 9 months old (it was a brand new replacement for when I hit the kerb) yet the other 3 wheels that are just about 2 years old are fine.
I reckon its either from another supplier or the tyre fitter must have damaged it around the wheel nuts as that is where it has developed and that is the only wheel that has been off!!
