3 door rear quarter glass
« on: 03 August 2011, 09:46 »
I'm a bit worried about removing it. Its obviously bonded from the inside, so I'll have to cut it all away and force it out? But will I need a new seal and risk damaging the old one? Cost a fortune so don't wanna damage it if I can help it, but need to sort the rust issue out at the bottom. Anyone taken it out before?

Better to get a glass company to remove it and rebond it, much easier as they have the kit to sort it.

Its like the rear screen it has like a rubber seal thing round edge.

iv just had my rear screen removed for my respray and its just been put back in

the seal round edge of glass is just rubber bonded to the glass and not actually the seal, the seal is the bond that actually holds the glass in place. the glass guy just cut mine out and the rubber round the edge was not cut or damaged at all.. he just re boded the glass back in after and you cant tell its ever been out

Well I've just stripped off the door card and trim from inside, just don't wanna start it and it end up raining so I can't complete it. Might wait til Monday as the lump is going back in at the w.end, so if I cock it up, I can take it to someone who knows what their doing! Need to be careful the glass doesn't end up on the concrete when I cut the bonding off too! There was shattered glass behind the door card too, so it's obviously been broken into in the past or summat, probs where the issue started. Thanks for replies though, will keep updated of progress.

Good luck, you need specialist glue / bonding agent to refit the glass.

If you need to get at the metal then you will have to take out the seal.
