Options worth having?
« on: 02 August 2011, 21:11 »
Hi guys,

Looking to buy a mkv gti in the next 2 weeks.  What are the best/most important options in your opinions?

Is the Sat Nav unit worth having or is it better to use a Tom Tom?

Leather seats better than cloth or just personal choice?

Heated seats worth having?

What else would you have?  looking to spend 10-12k on an 07/57 black car

cheers

A really good stereo in my opinion. Sat navs are an easy solution with a Tom Tom.

I've got a six cd stereo - I really want a full blown beauty like the kenwood they have on display in the showrooms.

They're expensive afterwards so I'd try and deal one in on the buy.

Cloth stays in better condition than leather in my book

I've got leather and think it looks much better than the dodgy tartan cloth plus the embossed GTI in the headrests are cool.  Comes with heated seats which are great in winter too.  They get bloody hot on full whack!

Like the others say make sure you get a decent stereo.  You want at least the RCD500 which is a front loading 6 CD player which also plays mp3's burned onto cd's.  Ideally you want the RCD510 which is touch screen and has an SD card or the RNS510 which is the sat nav version.

Hello,

I'm not sure if it's a feature on every mkv gti but i like having the height adjusters on both front seats. My seats are heated and

on those days when you require the warmth it really feels like a luxury. Xenons and dsg also make me a very happy chappy. I've

found that a cloth seat grips you better than a full leather seat but try them both and see what you prefer.

Good luck in your search,

Bigs.

Go for options that are difficult to retrofit: Xenons (requires headlamps, auto-levelling and washers), highline (finding the right cluster can be difficult), and seat preferences.

Satnav, cruise control and bluetooth are easy. Multifunction steering wheel is easy if DSG as you just need the buttons, otherwise you need a new steering wheel if the car is manual.

Front centre armrest is a must IMO. It looks naked without one .

Xenons are great but harder to find.

Girls love the heated seats  :laugh:which come with the winter pack (or leather).

SATNAV is definitely worth having now the UK postcode fix has been sorted - at least if buying used, a bit pricey as a new option. Built in MP3 is excellent too
