My First Golf
« on: 01 August 2011, 11:17 »
Hello all,

Name is Paul, Im 24 from Ireland but living in Luxembourg, and hopefully picking up my first ever Golf GTI in 2 weeks! Literally searched all of Europe, and will be going to Italy to collect the beast soon. She is a 2006 5dr in grey with leather, DSG, VW touchscreen sat nav+reversing camera, sunroof, xenon, 18s,etc.......basically she is a minter

Anyway as I am a VW virgin I have a few questions:

Engine + Transmission
It has just over 50,000 on the clock. What should have been done at the last service? any belts/pumps etc?
Also its my first ever auto box (have driven them before but never owned), anything i need to watch out for with the DSG?

Lighting,
It has xenon lights fitted. Sorry for the slow question but what happens if one of them fails? Is it a bulb change?can it be done DIY?
Also I want to replace most of the bulbs with LED bulbs,ie sidelights, overheadlights, door cards, licence plate, etc. I have an Alfa now and tried the same but the main computer went spare as it thought the bulbs were blown and kept flashing warning lights. (for changing indicator bulbs i have the resistors already)

Anything else I should know?

Thanks for your help. I will literally be the first person to burst from excitment when i go to collect it!cant friggin wait! :D

VW uk suggest the timing belt should be changed every 40,000 miles, however your handbook says 120,000 miles.

There has been many a debate on here when and how often it should be changed. I recently got mine changed at the 60,000 mile mark.

Your book history should be able to highlight if it has been changed or not.

Get the pictures posted when you have it.
