Question on Electric Seats
« on: 29 July 2011, 12:35 »
First off - I have been reading this forum over the past month whilst pondering whether to purchase a GTI. Thanks to trawling through your great posts and discussions I was able to find answers to all of my questions (except one) on just about any topic I could think. So this week I decided to take the plunge and buy a shiny new GTi, arrives Sept 1st! Yay!

The one question - I couldn't see anywhere in the spec list to order electric seats. I have the full leather so it has electric lumbar controls but everything else is manual. So my question - is it actually possible to spec full electric seats on a GTI in the UK?

Can't say I am particularly bothered, just curious really

Short answer is no:)

I think this is the "privilege" VAG reserves for Audi customers...
Golf GTI VI DSG - died on the road, resurrected, came back as zombi, sold
R - rising blue, 5-door, DSG, ACC, something something...

You can in other markets but not the UK.

It was the same in the MK5, you could order them on imported cars but not from a UK dealer.

Ah ok, thanks for the clarification guys.

I suspected as much but just wanted it confirmed. Seems very strange to me that they would make the seats only part electric and particulalry considering this is a "premium" car and just about every other conceivable mod-con is specable..... and it is available in other EU countries!

However who am I to question the mighty wisdom of VAG!

I am knocking about in my wife's 04 Fiesta  :embarassed:

I had a very nice S2000 which I sold 2 years ago and never got round to replacing. Great car, I would highly recommend them, but strangely never felt as fast as I had hoped, no real torque which always left me a little unsatisfied, (and no it didn't have electric seats either  )

Really looking forward to getting out of the Fiesta and back into something where the acceleration is not measured in minutes and the stereo doesn't sound like the little portable speakers I used to plug into my old school walkman back in the day!

Will post pictures in September of new car

You won't be disapointed with the GTI......... It will feel like jumping into a V12 Ferrari compared to the fiesta

You may still get the same sound as you get in your Fiesta in the GTI unless you ordered Dynaudio. Some people think the system is ok in the GTI a couple of us on here are very unimpressed.

You'll love the GTI by the way.

Welcome Rob.
You'll love the GTI. It is a wonderful car to behold and to drive.
Regarding the sound system: The speakers are not the main problem, though they also need upgrading especially the front ones. The RNS 510 Sat Nav sounds rubbish compared to the standard fit RCD310 CD radio. It's worthwhile specifying Dynaudio which is brilliant value for money, IMO. Otherwise you'll end up like me spending thousands of pounds to get decent sound. I was very penny wise pound foolish.

Welcome aboard Rob.
It is a bit odd that you pay so much for leather (and leather look plastic) and yet you don't get fully motorized movement. I guess it's just a €€€£££ thing.

Your 'due date' seems very soon, is it a cancelled order or something you've picked up? What else does it have in the spec list?

The GTI is a very nice car to live with, not the best in any one area but by far the most balanced car out there. A real case of the sum of the parts are greater than the whatever it is.
It's a bit of a shame that they can't be bothered to paint the whole car properly, and that VW charge loads more for the same extras than SEAT and Skoda do, but hey ho.
Other than that it's great!!!
