to be fair, i think bonnet pins are the least of that cars worries

Might also be worth noting that he probably needed the pins with an extension on the bonnet that long, he probably couldn't reach the catch.

That's not a cage as such.  Those bars are required to replace the strength lost from the rear turrets to the roof due to the removal of the C and D Pillars.  It may be a shonky job that's been covered.
