« on: 27 July 2011, 16:47 »
Pickin up a 2.0 8v as my engine isn't very healthy I have the whole car at a scrapyard so can get everytging I need easily enough, has anyone done this? I'm changing engine and box will I have issues with anything? I know it isn't guna give much improvement but instead of spendin money fixin can spend the money on a healthy new lump. And teally its a practice run for when I find an abf locally. Any help will be gd cheers

would be so much easier and cheaper to find an ABF lump and fit it now instead of doing 2 engine conversions..

I think everyone would agree with this.

I also want to tune the abf before it goes in. The 2e is just a steppin stone and I'm not worried about doin it twice I'll enjoy it

It'll be simple enough provided your mk2 is a late one (same f/b as mk3). As said, I'd hold out for the abf myself, youl be bored of a 2.0 8v the second you turn the key.. I've gone from 1.3 to 9a, then abf, then I've changed gearbox to 02a, each time taking the engine out. I'm obviously faster now with no labelling up etc and knowing the setup more, so suppose its not the worse case doin things twice, but going back I'd have done the full abf + 02a + all new main engine+gearbox seals, etc etc in 1 go, just to save the misery of doing it all again. Still, what's a couple of hours/days work for the many many hours of joy you'll have with it abf'd.
