anyone tell me if there any good? what i should be looking for? ive a budget of around 250, wont be using it everyday, just for films and the occasional xbox so will be night time use only. also what distance do they need away from the wall to work fine?

thanks

You need to spend big money for a good projector, £250 wont even get a good TV!

My mums boyfriend has one and its ok, cost a few grand as well. My TV is better and cost about 1/10th

Not great video footage but gives an idea, my mates were rubbish as well i know

what exactly made the tv better? i dont want a big tv for everyday use as i get really bad headaches, 32" seems to be the limit for me, was just wanting a big screen for the occasional use.

in that vid it seems a canny picture, but wii isnt hd, you reckon that would make the difference? how was the refresh rate? was the projector noisy? how far away from the wall was it?

im convincing myself but i need to convince the missus yet,

Its about 12 feet away from the screen which is 8 foot. It has everything hooked up to it, i have a vid of a PS3 game but the video quality is sh!t so no point. Watching a bluray the quality is ok but the picture gets 'lost' as it is being projected after all. A TV has no loss, my TV is LED so the picture is pretty sharp in comparison. He has a few panasonic epic TV jobbies (im not a big tv buff) around, they are about £4k each though and are epic compared to the Projector.

If quality isnt an issue a projector is great but if you want quality you need a good TV. The screen gives me huge headaches and almost motion sickness after a while, only if i play games though. Played DJ hero for 30 minutes and had a weird effect where everything was moving like it does on the screen! lol

If you want a projector where the picture doesnt look like an old fashioned OHP (Overhead Projector) to have to spend approx £1,000 not taking into account the fact that you will need to invest in an AV amp with multiple HDMI-In's, a Blueray player and a decent screen for projecting the picture.

If you don't intend on spending in excess of £1,500 i'd stick to a nice quality LCD TV, and you said you suffer from headaches don't get a 3D TV.

+1 lot of money to get a set up worth even contending with some of the tv's nowadays

Dude - the above advise is not good.

You can pick these up 2nd hand over on AV forums......http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?hl=en&biw=1260&bih=866&q=optoma+projector&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=5893452711902349178&sa=X&ei=9YYxTrO1LNSGhQesu6DtCg&ved=0CDwQ8wIwBQ#

and they'll do a cracking job in full HD!  Yes, you will need a blu-ray player etc etc but you do not have to pay 1k for a projector, especially if you are buying 2nd hand.

My mate has 1 in his room, one in his gfs living room and one under his bed. All taken from work for free then repaired. Hooked up to a computer and if your not after anything spectactular then you can mong out in bed and have a 91" film.

They make some heat though which can be abit annoying but newer ones could be better?
