Hi All

My names Andy and I'm a Dubaholic

I've owned at some point every Golf from Mk1 through to Mk5 and have just bought a 1988 Golf Gti 16v.
It was an unintentional purchase for a bargain £300 - It is MOT'd till March next year and Taxed for a few months or so

I was not expecting too much for £300 but when I picked it up it was not too shabby...bonnet is a different colour and the tailgate is totally shot and the wheels are terrible and the exhaust could be used as a cannon but apart from that all is good!
The guy who owned it handed over the keys and a huge blue folder and as I was about to drive away he mentioned that the original service pack is in it's little cubby hole.
Anyhow..I drive the rather dirty and messy Golf home without issues then take a look at this blue folder that he gave me...
To my surprise this folder contains every bit of history ever for this car from the original order form in germany from 1988 to 2007 when the car was taken off the road.
On the order form the car is referred to as a mk2 Gti 16v 'Special' in Helios blue with the options of Right hand drive, Sunroof and electric windows and central locking. I don't know if the reference to special means anything but I found it all pretty interesting!
The service book is fully stamped up to its current mileage and drives really well..a quick look through the paperwork and back in 2006 the car went into VW for all new suspension etc so the car mechanically is spot on.
The interior is all original bar the rainbow interior and cleaned up very well with no real electrical gremlins

Sadly the same cant be said for the bodywork but I will be sorting that out slowly....
Thats about it really...quite shocked that cars like this still exist and even more shocked that I managed to buy it for as little as I did!
Andy.
