please asker... dont get a remap!!!
we will never hear the end of how great it is and how anyone that doesnt have one is a *****.

Bog off mp3s.

i still have a GTI

remap or not... the mps is still quicker than the GTI

Even if that were true, which according to fastlaps.com it isn't. In many cases the Mazda is less than 0.2 second a lap quicker and on some tracks the STANDARD GTI is quicker that the MPS. Now imagine the lap times with a mapped GTI

If it were all about speed we'd all be driving be poorly built torque steering monsters or chav Imprezzas....

Actually according the comparison tool on the Fastest Laps site the MPS comes out on top with the verdict being that the "MPS is noticeably faster".
http://www.fastestlaps.com/comparisons/mazda_3_mps_mk_ii-vs-vw_golf_gti_mk_vi.html

The verdict is based upon the websites own rating system which awards points based on track performance which, although the MPS does prove quicker on almost all the tracks, sometimes only manages a few tenths of a second faster than the 50hp down GTI. But, because the MPS secures the faster time, it is simply recorded as a "win" for that track. All these "wins" count up and give the MPS an exaggerated performance rating. Stock for stock the MPS is quicker, but not by much. Give both cars equal power however and then see what's quicker. Even if both cars were mapped I reckon the GTI would be quicker around more tracks.

But anyway, we have hijacked this thread and I do apologise. I will now cease my digressions.

EDIT, just out of interest I have compared the MPS to a Scirocco R. The Scirocco R represents quite well IMO a mapped GTI as both cars are obviously VAG, both have the option of DSG (although I don't know if the cars tested use such facilities), both use XDS (IIRC), the same FWD chassis (Scirocco being based on a Golf IIRC) and both chuck out around 260hp.

Using these new parameters the Scirocco R is rated "noticeably quicker" than the MPS but again the more accurate picture is shown by the differences between the lap times. Consistently, the Scirocco R is 2-3 seconds faster on each track. Whereas the MPS could sometimes only manage a few tenths quicker than the standard GTI, a FWD VW with similar power to the MPS can manage a few seconds quicker than the Mazda.

Here's the link http://www.fastestlaps.com/comparisons/mazda_3_mps_mk_ii-vs-vw_scirocco_r.html

Now I'm finished hijacking

If you can have it then the Alientech box is a handy piece of kit

I have it for my car and its very quick and reliable for swapping maps around.

Best bit is it stores your original file so you can return the car to stock at any time

Option one CARBON remap:
Your remap is written from scratch using the information we download from your ECU, this remap is custom written for your specific vehicle using our experience and best judgment to give you an OEM feeling, linear remap that we can tune to your driving style.

Option two full CARBON custom remap:
For this remap you would need to come to our facility to have your car tuned further again on our rolling road and can, if required include modifications such as exhausts, air filters etc.

Thanks
Craig
May i ask how option 1 works for those meeting in london for an example. Im curious how this is done.
Do they have to supply you with their map first and when you have the meet you then supply the new one?

Have you any sample option 1 rolling road printouts for a mk6 GTI to show as an example of the curves that you expect compared to stock of a map spec you would recomend to use please?
Thanks.

The original map is downloaded from the ECU on the day, they have the kit and software on their van to make the necessary changes

Whole process takes a couple of hours depending on the vehicle

Modified file is uploaded to the ECU and you drive off into the sunset with a big huge grin on your face

Saturday 6th August seems an auspicious date, if Craig also agrees. Venue could be my Hospital Car Park in Kings Cross, which will be empty on Saturday and therefore all ours.

So far the list is:
(1) Steve30
(2) Jimmymature
(3) am1w

Any more interested parties (?) please post here ASAP as this would make it worth Craig's long trip down to the Big Smoke.

Great work there chaps!!

Although seeing as I now own both you could have just asked me

The GTI handles its power much than the MPS as std. The MPS however is designed to take the 260bhp and does therefore cope quite well with the extra power. The GTI is still much nicer to drive than the MPS... but the bang for your buck in the MPS just seems to add to the fun factor.

Quite a few MPS's out there running over the 320bhp with a few mods... so even in a remapped GTI you have been warned. Consumption is a beeatch but the xenons (std) and Bose stereo make up for it.

the mps sounds  where as the GTI continues to sound like a Diesel  :lipsrsealed:
