Lotus Charger Cooler for G60 Engine????
« on: 24 July 2011, 20:47 »
Hey peeps,

Can anyone shed a little bit of light on this matter, i have found this on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1991-VOLKSWAGEN-CORRADO-G60-RED-/320730725524?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4aad0a7c94 and the bloke selling it has put a Lotus charger cooler on it, i do really like the look of it and what i really want to know is A) how does it actually work compared to a normal intercooler and B) how much benifit would you actually get from it?????? Has anyone delt with one of these before or fitted one if so would be intrested to find out how it is done.

Cheers

its water to air cooling as opposed to air to air cooling. Theres a secondary radiator & pump setup that pumps cooling water through the charge cooler (see the two pipes leading into the charge cooler). Water flows around the pressurised hot air in the cooler as air would in an intercooler, cooling the charge air down.
Adavatages being its more compact, meaning less of a faff to fit and in turn you get less pressure drop with the smaller core required.
disadvantages being its relatively complicated. more expensive, and they heatsoak badly over long periods of user. Good for dragstrip / dyno bragging though as you can pack the rad with ice to massively temporarily lower inlet temps.

Cheers for that, i did think that it had something to do with water going around it to lower the tempreture, i have a customer intercooler set up on my golf so i think i will just stick with this as it does look complicated to set up and looks very costly but cheers for the info.
It would be good to see if anyone else has done something like this as iv never seen it on a G60 engine before.
