A few beach shots
« on: 24 July 2011, 19:54 »
Took these today with my FujiFinepix S602Z on a Tripod. I haven't done anything to them, but if you were taking them, how would you have made them look better?

As always, any help/pointers/criticism will be greatly received.

Thanks

Toby

Thanks for the tip, that's something that I've never thought about before, so I will make a conscious effort in the future

polarizing filter on the shots with the pools would take the glare off the water and let you see into the pools.

the last shot of the rock pools with the sea, this could be improved using a long shutter speed to create a milky sea over the rocks (you would probably need ND filters for this).

composition wise the boats is probably the best of the bunch, it need to be straightened up and I'd place the boats lower in the frame so that the boats are pointing bottom to top, with the space above the boats or go for a wide angle crop to emphasizes the line of boats.

The rest of them are pretty 'flat' this is down to shooting on an overcast day, meaning you've got little contrast in the scene, this could be improved by shooting at a different time of day.

take a look at the following

heres a little edit of your last shot.

i would say the main thing you need to work on is shot composition (whats the picture supposed to show/highlight)

Here's a quick edit of the surf board shot. Just a crop, rotate so that it's straight, desaturate (remove colour) and tweak of contrast and brightness. (I would have done a little more but only had an old copy of photoshop).
If I'd had time I would have made all of it black and white and just had one of the surf boards in colour.
