I often wonder why people never expect sarcastic comments from me - they're the only reason I speak...

Joe, don't do it! Knowing you this comes with a pricey finance package attached to it. In 6 months you'll regret it as you'll be making those big loan payments again. If you really do have to get something cheaper to run get something older. It might be cheaper to run than the MKII but what about those monthly payments you'll be coughing up?

The MKII just needs some fettling, I thought you were nearly there with it?

With the finance 'if' I were to go ahead it would be against £5995 which i looked at 3 and 4 yrs prices

which at the moment I can afford to pay

I miss the comfort of a newer car and well its been one of those battles with my head for the last 6 months where i hate the car then love the car hate the car love the car and its just worn me out in all honestly, as said the other wk finish work at 8pm get to my car and then it doesnt start and once the rac etc have been out i dont get home till 9.45.

I really am not cut out for mk2 ownership (prop any car ownership tbh!) as something always happens

Again this particular A3 is in the bracket of cars that had problems with thier cylinder heads and ive spent most of yesterday reading through thread after thread of common faults etc which has put doubt in my mind and is prob a good thing as it has made me very cautious.

If only i hadnt sold my 1.8t in the bloody first place!

After some futher research its cheaper for me to get a loan through work which reduces the overall payment by about a 1k!! so again 'If' I were to go ahead it would be a bank loan and not finance as this works out cheaper in the long run and would be 3 yrs instead of 4

And the other thing being I would own the car

I know, I think what will most likely happen is i go and test drive it and then ive got a bench mark set. as mentioned need to spk to work as getting a loan through them for any amount works out a hell of a lot cheaper and yes 6k is alot of money!

And might have someone who wants my mk2 as well so overall I think im going to be looking around and see what is the best solution overall for me :)

im in the same posision joe! hate the golf then love the golf! i really dont know what to do. aldi a3 tdi or mk2 :| its only a weekend car! i priced up a new polo gti and it come to £20k. i can afford but dont wana be strapped with that much finance  around 6k is what id idealy spend, i have the mk4 which is paid for, probbaly sell for £2000 :\ so just deciding, i got a 5 door as fear as if i got the mrs preggers we wouldnt need to sell my pride and joy, but i really fancy a 3 door, or only a 5 door if its audi a4 etc :|

and my insurance would be cheap! i would get a little 1.4 or something, but for me its a weekend car! i do 1k+ miles a week in a transit connect, restricted to 65mph so i need some poke for the weekend

A real 304bhp 286lbft in a mk4 golf!
