Seat Foams differences
« on: 21 July 2011, 13:02 »
The drivers seat foam was wrecked so I switched it with one from a spare drivers seat I had lying around. Appears this may have been a 90 spec seat because when I switched the the base over it didn't fit and I ended up using the foam only (at a push). The driver seat is now slightly higher than the passenger seat.

Does anyone have any idea what specifcally makes them different is as if possible I'd like to try and get a better fit.

erm not really. i think the last mk2 gtis had bigger bolsters on the seats, the grey and red/blue striped interiors.

earlier cars had lesser seat bolsters and the later cars had the same kind of things as a mk3.

i did a lot of research on this when i modded my car and the best way i found is to get a mk3 interior and some standard mk2 front seats: cl, ryder, 1.3 etc.

if you strip the mk3 seats off thier bases they go straight on to the mk2 standard bases.

now i have a comfortable supportive intertor that only cost me 21 quid!

simples!
mk2 bright blue met bits wanted in north west.

Sitting lower may be due to the subframes. GTI seat subframes are lower than normal mk2s, and Corrado subframes sit lower than GTIs.

i think there is a pre/post 90 seat, my pre 90 seats had a completely different base to the post 90 ones, i.e. pre 90 had metal supports for the base bolsters actually on the seat base and the foam slotted over them where as post 90 seats had the supports built into the foam itself...

This must be the issue. They are both GTI seats the originals were definately pre 90 the base foam I robbed must have been post.

i just cut the metal supports off my seat base and the post 90 foam fit then :)
