It sounds like the fuel pump.  Mine needed replacing after just 1000km.  It's happened to a few people I know here in Dubai.

VW replaced this in 48hrs and the car is running fine now 5000km later.

As usual you have come back quickly with some examples. I will keep you all posted. Although reading the forum on mark 6's it would appear the mechanic could revs the nuts off it. Wont be happy if I see that

Also anyone had a strange screeching noise (no not the tyres) when you quickly drive forwards, stop and then reverse? \tried to make the clutch slip, but seemed fine, and only does it once every 2-4 weeks.

Mines at the dealer tomorrow too, will report back and see what they come up with. I will suggest fuel pumpo, coil pack and spark plugs from the advice so far. Dont really want an ECU update, from what I have read it ruins the car

If you could.
Mines in today for something else. Then back in a week tomorrow for a few other thing to be looked at including this issue so it would be intereted to know what they find out about yours to help and point them in that direction for mine.

so, its been in today, and had the following treatment:

Test drive found there was a hiccup as described.
checked for software update - needed update, so update applied, then test drive to discover slight misfire under hard acceleration.
Removed all spark plugs and checked - found cracks in all spark plugs !!!! replaced and tested ok.

Been washed very well, and cleaned inside, which has saved me a job, although not quite to my standards, but saved me several hours

Driven home (not far and all seems well). Given £25 in leisure vouchers as car been put in under warranty.

Time will tell. :lipsrsealed:
