Electric window stuck....Please help!
« on: 20 July 2011, 16:34 »
My drivers electric window is not going all the way up.  It will go up a certain amount then suddendly stop and go back down......So it is not going all the way up

I have taken the door card off and cant see anything that could be stopping it so I took some pictures that think may help.

Any help would be great.

Thanks in advance.....

The screw drive of the regulator is probably worn and not working properly.
Probably need a new one.

Billy is the expert on those!

common problems  on the mk3 the plastic bit where the cable runs on has got worn and the cable has over lapped hence the window goes up and back down again and will not reach the top to close eventually the cable will snap.

has happen to many mk3 golf i have worked on.

Thanks guys

I have removed the inner and outer window sill.....No luck

the plastic bit where the cable runs on has got worn and the cable has over lapped hence the window goes up and back down again and will not reach.....I have seen 2 of these at the top mate and they both look fine, even when trying the window they both work ok and I cant see any overlap  :undecided:

Interesting Len what you have said.......  Could you text Billy and ask him to check out my post as I have lost his number since loosing my phone!!

At the mo' she has a bin bag covering the window to save her from the rain!!

My drivers window does exactley the same and sometimes it just locks up and wont go down.If when you try to go up it comes back down just press the switch quickly so short presses only and it should go back up.If it locks up when its up hit the motor with a hammer not mega hard just enough and it usually unlocks it works every time for me.

better of changing the whole mechanism mate as the cable will eventually snap .

if u take the mechanism out of the door u have 4or 5 star screw holding the cable to the motor on the inside of the motor is a plastic gear with grooves on it the cable tends to wear out the grooves and hence the cable overlaps causing the window to go up then back down.
hope this explains your question '

if not give us a ring ,number is in the sig.

I occasionally get the same problem. Just bang the motor and it should go all the way up. If not, get banging. Then when I unlock the car, the window automatically goes half way down. Just disconnect the negative terminal of battery for 10 seconds, and reconnect. Problem solved.
