Remapping a mk4 V5
« on: 20 July 2011, 07:12 »
Just wanting some advice guys i have a 99 mk4 golf v5 150bhp and are thinking about a remap, induction kit and decent exhaust/flow system. The car is in great condition im the 3rd owner and i can tell its been lookes after. It has done 120 odd thou miles. Is it advisable to remap an engine with higher millage?

Cheers for any advice

I do want more power out of the car which is why i want an induction kit and a good flow system but i have thought about a turbo also is this advisable again with said millage above. Would like to get the best performance i can as it wont be my daily ride in a few weeks so i can spend some time on cosmetics and performance :)

An exhaust, remap and filter will gain you 4 to 6 bhp if your lucky, induction kit is a waste of time.

Not the best choice for perfomance tbh, 1.8 turbo is the best choice.

Hello,

An R-Tech spec1 which will gice sharper cripser pedal response, smooth mid range with te 3500rpm flat spot removed and around 5bhp more on the average power and about 8-9bhp on the peak out put.  All you need to do is run it on super unleaded and get a good induction kit to unlock a little more top end power..

Whilst not an obvious choice of car to remap, it is still worth doing if only to even out the power band, eradicate flat spots, improve throttle response and just make it feel sharper.

We've tuned my wife's Polo 1.4 16v (AHW) 75bhp (gains circa 7bhp) and it honestly feels like a different car (so much so that she noticed - and she doesn't notice much).

It's all about what's right for each customer.  That car won't make easy power like a turbo diesel, but don't write off a remap so easily.

Definately worthwhile remapping this engine

Although the peak power gains are not outrageous, the changes to the way the car drives are very noticable. Much sharper throttle response, removal of flat spots, a good improvement in torque across the entire RPM range and peak power/torque improvements of around 8-10Hp + 10-15Ft/lb.
