plenty of room on the 1.4 to get the rad out without taking the front off... (the 1.6 is the same, although it gets trickier due to access on 1.8 and upwards)

That's what i thought, its like the mk2 then, it comes straight out.
GTi/Vr6 models the front end has to come off, not through lack of room, but because its the only way it will come out.

Replaced the radiator without many problems other than the front cross-member being in the way slightly. Just removed the front bumper for easier access to it :)
