New mk3 owner by accident!
« on: 18 July 2011, 21:27 »
This weekend I went to pick up a bit of a steal i'd made courtesy of eBay. An R reg 5 door, dragon green, 16v GTI with a years ticket and 6 month tax for a mere £410!! Unbelievable value.

Main reason I went for this was I thought ideal engine donor vehicle for my now off the road Mk2 GTI but this car is far too good and honest to break, so i'll be running it for a wee while.

This is the first 16v i've driven and I must say it is one peach of an engine, perfectly tractable at low revs and relentless when screaming way past 6k! I can see why people rave about putting the abf in mk2's . . . they make a great couple!

Anyway, not much more point to this post than to show off my bargain and also show my new found appreciation for the mk3, particularly where the 16v is concerned.

PS. When I picked the car up it had a misfire between 2.5k-4k. Replaced the ECU relay (no. 30) and it fixed it a treat.

Right well I've scrapped the idea of putting the ABF in the mk2, simply put this car is far too good to take apart and also to be honest I prefer the characteristics of the old 8v in the mk2 as it is.

I do love the rev happy nature of the ABF and I have no doubt it would make for an epic combo with the mk2 but it doesn't have the same character as the 8v which to be honest is what I love about the old girl!

Anyway, here are a couple of photos of the new one - really is a proper bargain. Still can't quite believe how much car I got for the money!!
