If you take the car on vw solutions / pcp then you get the 3 year service plan free so guess this must of been the case.

Lee, Is that a relatively new thing or just garage dependent?

Street82 who did you deal with at vw Cheltenham as I work there.

Lee.Evans@ir.inchcape.co.uk

I am off on holiday till the 31st but can see if we can do any more for you. Which broker have you enquired on getting the car through?

Hi Lee, I have just sent you an e-mail. Hope to speak to you after your holiday. Cheers Paul.

I'll be succinct.

Question 1: What car have you got?
Answer: Golf GTI.
Reaction: Eyes light up and there is a look of envy.

Question 2: What car have you got?
Answer: Golf GTD.
Reaction: Blank look, no reaction.

Life's a beitch.

QED. :smug:

I'll be more succinct.

You overrate the Golf GTI's impact.

I'm as much of a VW fan as the next person on here, however, I feel no envy, or animosity towards people who on mk6 GTI's. Sure they are a nice car, but not something to be envious about.

A car to be envious about is something like an exotic sports car Lambo, Ferrari, Bugatti, Rolls Royce etc. Hot hatches are ten a penny now, and every main manufacturer has one in its line up.

Ultimately to the OP, if you want a GTI for its spirited drive, good build quality and comfortable drive then get one. If you want a GTI for it's perhaps not quite as sure footed drive (due to front weight) good build quality and comfortable drive then get one of them.

It also depends on how long you intend to keep it. High milage on the GTI will affect resale value, on the GTD it won't harm it so much. Servicing costs on both will be higher due to VW method of working, although running costs on the GTD will be lower in terms of fuel and tax.

Economies of scale, which can you afford?

Thanks for your views guys. All feedback welcome.

Iv'e never used this site myself but it's supposed to get the best bid from all UK dealers on your spec of car.

You can also state what you are prepared to pay and see if any of them will come down to it.

It also shows typically available current discounts, so worth a browse to see how your best current quote compares

I understood they were often picked up by brokers so yet another link in the chain.

Get some balls and go haggle, it's fun!

streety 82, why don't you order a RHD golf from your local dealer in Germany, they order direct from the factory rather than through an importer and therefore lead times are a lot less, they might even do you a better deal and you can spec how you like, colours, GTD with 4wd etc, but be carefull if you go off UK spec as might be hard to sell on. Finally the options in germany always used to be much cheaper than in the UK. Worth a visit to spec and check it out. Dead easy to register at this end, and if you keep it for more than about a year no real value issues, if full UK spec. (i used to run car import business)

Paul,

other tactic is to find the cheapest broker price and then ask for it be matched by a few main delears, they won't I am sure, but say the deal is there when they want it, if they are only a car off their sales target at the end of the month / quarter, they will prob call you back and do the deal. I have done this very succesfully a few times. Local dealers to you (if in cheltenham) try blade in gloucester, vw in evesham and vw in Cirencester, prob too much money floating around in Cheltenham to get the best deal  I got my Ed30 from Capitol VW outside Newport because they had the sharpest pencil (i live in Chelt too BTW) Chelt parts are the best through, will often match TPS, and I have no complaints with the service dept at Chelt, always found them to be good.
