I fitted winter tyres to my mk2 for the first time last winter, best upgrade I've ever done.

i rock my old GTI rims at winter they also have parada on and they are not the best in the snow. 2 need replacing on the old rims so im gonna fit winter rubber for sure

I was joking mate :) I dont change my tyres for the winter and i guessed they wouldnt be good in the snow, but for other 363 days of no snow i want something nice! lol.

I'd consider them but it's too much of an outlay for four extra wheels AND four more tyres, and then no where to put the ones not being used as I live in a small apartment!

the amount I've heard people spending on winter wheels and tyres, you could pack yourself away somewhere hot for the 2 or 3 weeks of the year we have snow!!!

Sort of my thoughts aswell. I ended up driving in to London for quite a few days as the trains packed in and dispite the shocking conditions and my SUMMER Goodyear Eagle F1s I made there and back with no (major lol) dramas quite a few times. Yes, I got stuck a few times but got out.

All depends where you live. f**k getting stuck in some country lanes in the middle of nowhere.

I live in the countryside nr Newbury & work in the countryside nr basingstoke never got stuck but do find it's better not to stop going up hill in the mk4 as the grip on the front isn't great. If the snow is really bad I take the g/f 1.2 polo that thing is great fun in the snow!

I wasn't aware that learning how to drive had any impact on your tyres finding more grip?

By about October, I find my summer F1s are slipping too much, understeering out on the road, struggling for grip out of junctions.
I'll put my Vredestein Wintrac Extremes on again, and all will be well.
In the depth of winter, and 6" of snow I can't get the car off the driveway with the F1s on...
I can go where I want with the Wintrac extremes on.
Simple choice really...summer tyres and stay at home, or winter tyres and go about your busines as usual.
