Hi from Canada
« on: 12 April 2005, 00:59 »
Hi everyone,

As the subject says I am in Canada however I will be in London next month and was interested in checking out the VW scene.  I live in Toronto and I drive a 1980 Rabbit GTI.  The folks in Germany thought the name Rabbit would sell better over here so that's what pre-1985 Golfs are called in Canada and the US.  Thankfully they didn't apply their wisdom to remarketing GTI.

I also wanted to get some parts that are not available over here.  Specifically, I am looking for an original duckbill front spoiler.  I know aftermarket ones are available but I would like to see if I could find an original one.  Hence if anyone has one or knows a good scrap yard that has early MK1 please let me know.  I am also looking for an instument cluster.

Other than that I was interested in going to GTI International.  Do they have a good selection of parts?  Is it far from London?

If anyone could help out a fellow VW enthusiast it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to the forum.  Where in Canada are you from ? I've got family in Calgary.    London to Ipswich for Inters will be around the corner compared to some of the journeys you'll probably do in Canada.

Welcome to the forum.

London to Ipswich is about 60-70 miles up the A12 depending where in London you'll be coming from.  Failing that it's an hour on the train from Liverpool street to Ipswich and then 20 mins taxi ride to Bentwiters (the old american airbase)

Thanks for the info everyone.  I live in Toronto and have been here most of my life.  Haven't had a chance to drive out to Calgary but I'll make the trip across Canada one of these days.  I'll be staying in and around London and since none of my friends have cars so I'll try the train to Inters.  Thanks again for the information.

If anyone is interested in what a Canadian GTI looks like I have posted some pictures in the User gallery under 80GTI.
