Door and boot latches
« on: 17 July 2011, 16:28 »
I know it sounds like i'm whinging about my car but the only thing i hate is knocks and rattles and unfortunately this car has loads!! Anyway, is there a way i can adjust the boot latch and rear door latches as one or more of these seem to clunk now and again, i had the dealer take a look at it's first service and they said they lubricated them which helped for a while but it's back, i tried adjusting the rubber stops in the boot which didn't help any just made the shut lines wider!
Thanks

You can adjust them yes.
Also make sure the boot ones are actually tight they are known to work loose with time causing rattles. (I had to tighten mine!)

Ive not adjusted mine but looking at them they look the same as every other car i have seen therefore.
The two bolts holding the catches to the body loosen them slightly and tap the U loop in the direction you want to adjust it. Then retighten the two bolts. Its always best to use a felt tip pen and mark round the base of the catch so you have a starting point to go back to if you make it worse.

Could the rattle be this?

This might also come in handy for those rattles.

You never know mate, i'll wrap some electrical tape round the latch and see what happens, i wonder if thats the kind of grease the dealer used but has just worn away?
Cheers p3asa!

Wrapped some electrical tape round the seat latch before taking the car out earlier and it made no difference so took it off again, i got in the back and had good poke around trying to move the doors and boot lid with no joy, i've tightened the spare down a touch but i doubt it's that, it sounds very much like the boot latch but how to fix it?............ :undecided:
