Hi,
To try and get rid of the agricultural sound on me old faithful have replaced the back box with a stock (ernst) one, replaced the middle box, (again an ernst one).. so all that is left is the straight pipe, then the cat going onto the downpipe. It still sounds far too much like a Massey Ferguson than a smooth purr..!
Have been given lots of varying advice.. lot of people have said to just replace it, as the cat will only knock off about 2% of power. (TSR site mentions this). VAG quoted £275... sod that.... Was wondering how much 2nd hand one might be picked up for.
Also ... totally agree with you .. I would rather not have the Fu<£in thing there at all.
Thing is, I am concerned about how the car will run with just a straight pipe between middle box and downpipe. There is the other issue of the lambda sensor. I gather that whatever I do this sensor will still need to be reading the exhaust gases so that the ZX81 computery thing can regulate the fuel mix... is that right?
If its cheaper to get a custom straight pipe and have a sensor screw lug welded on then I would happily go for that....
Ah if.... only this car was as simple as my old mk1.... anyways mk2's though... love em!
Cheers,
Omby.
