R.e. Number Plates and surrounds...
« on: 11 April 2005, 19:34 »
Hi All,

Was wondering now that I have given me ole faithful a spring clean.... where's a good place to get number plates made up. Mine are long in tooth, knackered, peeling a bit and look more suited to being blutacked to an Astra or should that be Ashtray?

Would like to get a standard legal set made up possibly with the VAG badge on the side, also would be good to be able to put a small line of text centred under the registration. I thought about putting some descreet philosophical pearl of wisdom about not feeling the need to tear around in a scooby, looking all tossy with a whaletail spoiler....may be in order...!

Anyways... have also seen those black number plate surrounds aswell, they look quite an understated style tweek methinks..!

Anyone know of a place that offers the holy grail...i.e. cheap, well made and good quality?

Cheers,

The Ombudsman

if you want anything by the standard GB then you'll have to mail order or find a shop that does them. most places will do the standard plates. The only text they'll do is their postcode.

there are various sites online that sell them. even german style ones, but the police won't like it so carry the standard one in the boot so you can swap them there and then and hopefully avoid a fine or pts.

Check these guys out:

http://www.fancyplates.com/index.html

I ordered my plates from them a couple of months ago, I went for standard plates with the GB symbol to the left and a blue pinstripe round the whole plate. They were only about £30 for the set which is a pretty good price. They do manufacturer logos and you can add your own text to the bottom of the plate etc.

It just so happens that John has some golfgti.co.uk branded plate frames, check them out here:

Failing that I think most number plate/car modding websites stock them in one form or another.

If you want some German style plates, try www.germanplates.com I ordered them on Friday, and they turned up today. You originally order them from the U.S. but they contract the work to Germany. They cost me £26 for a front, a rear, and two surrounds, this includes the p+p and they are the pressed aluminum. Make sure you go to the group buy part of the site, they work out at this price then.
