A lot of businesses have target related bonuses, why not the police?

One of the coppers said it himself on the program "It's taken away our discretion".

If its a minor offence, and you're polite about it, wouldn't discretion and a telling off be more effective than a ticket?

Because the police force isn't  [supposed to be] a business, it's a public service.

Mind you, if they'd turned round and said "We get bonuses for every wife-beater we arrest" we'd all applaud

I don't think a bonus should be an incentive though, they most probably joined the police because they wanted to make the world a better place.
If they said that I'd have even less respect for them, as it would seem cash would be their drive to combat domestic violence, and regardless of morals.

It' greed that has taken away their discretion, they can still give someone a telling off and not log it to get bonus points.

You'd think the money they're using to pay these bonuses could be put to better use. Especially with all the cuts that have been brought in. Although I suppose the more tickets they give out the more money they'll bring in through fines

And it would seem that the money they get through fines would go straight into their own back pockets!

Understand all of the comments above but i think we are in a greedy society, therefore what can the government do apart from offer incentive to coppers to do the job to the best standard possible.
If you run a car with any of the problems shown inthe program then accept your gonna get done and pay the fine!
If the bloke with the no seatbelt charge had just shut Up and taken it then she wouldn't have worked his car over haha. Was funny as soon as he gobbed off she was off round his car :D
Don't feel sorry for anyone who gets done, that is their job, they are traffic officers enforcing the traffic laws specifically, so if I'm honest they were in the right!
The only thing that annoyed me was when he started talking sh!t about how low the car was, I'm afraid i would have told him it was motd and roadworthy so jog on at that!
Everything else fair enough! Certainly got off light with the windows! Especially as h was being filmed and they had said before thy are not allowed to use discretion!

Believe me its a dead ringer for you! Even says something stupid!

Because they are there to serve the public's best interest.

A cynic would say they will prey on easy targets, avoiding the bigger fish to satisfy their quotas
