Mk2 VR6 conversion.

I driven both 150 and 180bhp 1.8T, massively overrated in my opinion.

  I am well happy with mine.

1.8t or ABF in a mk2 is still a good choice.

What i meant Wayne is the performance is overrated, the 180bhp 1.8T didn't feel as good as my old VR6.

  Seems quick enough to me, VR has the noise however

I didn't say it was slow, that's not what i'm saying. After reading what people post on here, you would expect a real performance car, its not that really. Quick but not that fast

just do what my mate has done 4.2l v8 single turbo rs4 engine i believe.. its in the back so thats helped his handling no ?? its also rwd which everyone says is best ?? its not the best but its fast in a straight line and looks the bollocks.. im fitting a abf but for the looks the vr in the bay looks awesome imo

People do the VR6 conversion because it's easy, they like the numbers V6 2.8/2.9 and they sound great.

I could ask, why do people always do 20vt conversions?... why do people do so many conversions full stop, what happened to making best of what you've got!

I started this thread as a cheap vr block, box etc came upfront £200 which I thought was a good price, but I wasn't 100% on what else was needed. I decided against it in the end as I'm going to spend the money making the mk2 better, not faster.

The 20v doesn't interest me much either. It has no character. This is Part the reason why the mk4 was so bland IMO.

Currently mine is a 8v which is 16v pace it's not fast but it's fun with peaky power. I though the vr would be similar? Just with the noise to go with it

You cannot compare a standard 150/180 20vt in a mk4 or similar platform to a 230+bhp one in a mk2. Sure, they're pretty quiet in standard trim, but I'm guessing you've never been in a turbo nutter bastard mk2. When tuned the noises are awesome, the spooling up sound coming on boost, the whistle, pops and 2ft flames from the exhaust, the dumping between gears, the general air rushing sound, combined with a good speed sensation, all that sounds so much better than bwaaaaaah like you get from a vr or abf kjet airbox. I've got an abf mk2, and I like how it goes and sounds, but my pals 20vt ruins it in performance, sound, mpg, and general awesomeness when you start pushing tvr's, evo's, scoobies etc out the way its no comparison really.. Characterless?! Never heard such tosh! More like smooth and subtle power rather than all noise! 20vt is an awesome engine when its in the right shell with the right mods
