Mk2 VR6 conversion.
« on: 13 July 2011, 20:44 »
Hi guys. Sorry to be one of them but can anyone help me out with what I need to complete a VR6 conversion? I'm on my phone and the search function doesn't work too good! A chap is selling "all" the bits to convert to a VR6. I just needed to double check what I would need.

My car is the later Mk2 with the hazard switch on the steering column if that makes a difference for ecu purposes?

Cheers

Answer answered ;)

There are so many variations of what makes a full kit, so your best bet is to start with that forum and check through all the stikied threads on there.

Why do some men shag fat lasses? Its not something I would ever want to do but that doesnt mean that there arent people out there that do it every day and enjoy it . Dont forget, just because you dont get it, doesnt mean its wrong .

I dont get it on the following grounds:

Its f**king heavy
Its underpowered for a 2.8
Its thirsty, very thirsty
It f**ks the handling
Its has naff all tunability.

If i were doing a conversion it would be 1.8T, no question

Because its fast and produces lots of torque, and you can pick a lump up for next to nothing.

For a budget I reckon an abf swap offers better bang/buck ratio, those extra few kgs of the vr probably soak up the 20 or so bhp gain, but ok so the torque must be better.. I'd like to see a standard abf mk2 vs a standard vr6 mk2 alongside each other from standstill.. When it comes to spending that bit more £'s I'd have to go 1.8t. Abf for cheap / few hundred £, 20vt for all out speed + 'coolness/grinning factor'

ABF is probably the best bet in a mk2.
VR and 1.8T are both heavy lumps. However VR's are very cheap to source and can easily be tuned up to 200bhp.

A 1.8t surely is a lot lighter than a vr, even with turbo etc attached?? I wouldn't call a 1.8t heavy, not by any means, as the power + torque soon makes up for it..I like my abf mk2, but in straight lines my mates 20vt mk2 ruins me, different league style..

I can't remember the actual figures, but you would be very surprised, the 1.8T is virtually as heavy as a vr.
