Welcome to the site first of all, as for the hood, I've just had a new one put on mine, from theses people www.soft-tops.co.uk I actually paid £199 not £260 as it says on the website because I told them I was quoted £199 from the trimmers and he gave me that price, so be cheeky and he might let you have it for that too. There's these as well although they are more expensive http://www.autohoods.co.uk/list_volkswagen.htm If you feel brave try these in America http://www.cabrioworld.com/

For the record, my mohair hood from soft-tops is good but it's not as good as the original one and it does flap a bit at one side when going fast I'm told. I think this is down to the fact that the beading down the side is not weighted down as much as the original, but it is after market at the end of the day. As for the electric bit, there's a few threads in this section about it so have a search and I think the outcome was that it would be too much of a ballache to do it.  :undecided:

Hope this helps.

I think there's an electric hood on eBay at the moment?

Might be worth looking at just for the electrics alone even if the fabric isn't up to much.

I know a guy in Southport, Merseyside who did a good job on mine for £600. That included a new outer plastic skin, new inner headliner, wires and the insulation repairing where it had frayed. I got it done in September '03 and it is still in good nick,  it helps having a garage though!!

PM me if anyone needs details.

I replaced my hood covers from http://www.autohoods.co.uk/list_volkswagen.htm and installed myself -the quality is outstanding and just as good as the VAG ones.

As for electric hood - make sure whoever does it (once you have found one that is) that they get the motor installed properly in the boot (your need a plate installed to hold motor) - if this isn't it will only work now and again.
