Running problems on my 1.8 Mk3 golf
« on: 12 July 2011, 10:50 »
Hi all

Brought a P reg 1.8 golf last week knowing it had a running issue. When it starts it will run by it's self but soon as you go near the throttle, if you just lightly tap it it will rev slightly but if you put your foot down it dies. Been round all the sensors and cleaned them. Think it sounds like fuel starvation. Real shame because it's such a clean shell. All help will be greatly appreciated

hi mate, im no mechanic myself, but i saw on another thread some guy had the same problem with his mk3 gti. his cut out at 2000 rpm, couldnt work it out and in the end it was his coilpack on the way out. he changed that and it was sorted, hope that helps

hi mate im the guy with the gti that cut out at 2000rpm i have replaced the coilpack the leads done all the filters and replaced the fuel pump, each time (except the leads) the car has run fine for a couple days and have had the problem reoccure which has been very frustating.

i managed to get a vag com connected (i would reccomend this) and it has said the speed sensor is intermitently failing and the air mass sensor. i am getting them replaced monday evening so hopefully that will sort it out.

but if i was you i would start by getting a vag com connected if you cant try the speed sensor then the coilpack (as its cheaper) and then the MAF.

i will let you know monday evening what the problem was and if it is fixed.
cheers

i have replaced the speed sensor and it seems to be running and all the faults have now gone from the vag com. it might be worth checking the speed sensor on yours.
