andyr, despite not giving himself the best introduction to the forum, has hit the nail on the head.
I'm a little confused myself as to why you'd spend £250 on a service pack and then get the oil changed at 5000 miles by an indie anyway. JKM may well be one of the best indies out there but if you were planning on visiting them anyway why not save the £250 in the first place?
If you're planning on keeping the car way past the end of the warranty then by all means get the engine serviced as often as possible as this will be the best insurance you can get for a long engine life, obviously subject to 1001 other variables that can rear their ugly heads in the meantime.
But if you're only going to keep the thing a few years just stick to VWs service schedule. When you are part ex'ing a car everyone wants to see VW stamps in the book, if you are selling privately they want to see likewise. If you have any warranty claims you will have far less hassle if your car has been looked at by VW dealers and they can find everything they want to see on their database.
So all I can say is read the T&Cs on the service agreement and stick by them. If you want to drop the oil in the meantime between scheduled services then by all means go ahead, but do it yourself and save a few quid.
Hi andyr and welcome to the forum btw
