More acceleration from a 1400
« on: 09 July 2011, 13:17 »
My 1.4 Mk3 is "nippy" enough for me around town I guess but the other night I went out with a friend who owns a 1.2 Fiat Punto and to be honest blew me away once he over took me up a hill and I struggled to keep up with him after pulling away from the lights a lot :undecided:

I know there isn't much I can do but I was hoping for some suggestions as to how I can increase my acceleration a little? Do induction kits really make much difference? Noticeable difference that is?

Cheers guys :)

To be honest that's a sensible answer

There is no hope for a 1.4 engine to improve unless you stick a big fat turbo on it, which would cost a lot for not much.

A google came up with this:

http://www.madmotors.co.uk/engine-tuning/powerboost-valves/vw-powerboost-valves/fse-powerboost-valve-vw-golf-mk3-1-4-1-6-2-0-8v-95-97.html

I have no idea if it really works/is worth the £115 incl. p&p

If you try it, let me know, one of mine is a 1.4 as well

Chief :)

Fit small wheels, 13" should do it. Because they are smaller the spin way faster which makes you go faster. I had a mate with a 1.0 Micra and he used leave me standing at McDonalds but since fitting some 12" wheels I always get to the drive through counter first.
Not low enough mk5
Not on the road enough mk3

best thing for you is to lose weight, I mean car weight. strip the f**k out of it.
interior, arch liners, everything you don't need.

The fastest golf isn't the one with the turbo, it's the one with the owner who's also a jockey?
