16v pulling back issue
« on: 08 July 2011, 12:26 »
Hey,
Not long had the mk2 but definitely the best investment I've made! However I am having a slight issue with the car not running brilliantly. It seems to pull back and judder when the engines hot. It also has a misfire when started up at around 1500 rpm. Had a mechanic look at it but he couldn't find anything wrong with it as it does not always pull back or misfire so he couldn't really witness the problem. Any ideas guys? Preferably would like to try and sort it myself as money is a bit tight at the moment.
Thanks

Its possibly a fueling problem does the judder come in at a certain rev band?

If it misses on idle, pull plug leads one by one to see which one it is. Then swap leads to see if problem follows the plug/lead, also inspect dizzy cap + rotor arm for wear. As said above it may be fuelling/timing but checking the ignition side of things is quick and free. Check the timing when you have plugs out as well

It's an '89 G reg. The judder doesn't come on at a specific rev range no, it just seems to just be a bit random and you can change gear put your foot down and it just pulls back/judders rather violently then is fine. Okay I'll have a look at those when I'm home. I apologise in advance, I'm not used to being hands on with a car but this I see as being a rather exciting learning curve!

Good and fun until the crank keyway fails (twice on seperate engines), then your 020 box dies and you have to 02a it, all of which involves engines in and out, by the 4th time your very f**ked off. I remember the days when I enjoyed working on the valver, seems a distant memory now!!

Air intake pipe split some were , as you accelerate the pipe opens and buggers up your fuel mixture. the metering head flap closes because air flow is reduced???

Hi there

Have you resolved your problem?? having simular issues when accelerating whether it is hot or cold, pulled the plugs out  to check and they do seem a little coked up on the tips, could this be anything to do with it or not? one thing less to clear off my list before i start on plugs, cap, arm, fuel pump and filter etc etc etc.....
Also seems to run rich smells a little, yet went straight through MOT check with no issues???

Thanks for any advice, bloody annoying this is....
