Don't quote me on this but I think the best way is to remove the glove box compartment which will give you the space to get behind the dash. You will then be able to see the airbag module and connectors. Separate the airbag connectors and the module should be attached to the dash by 4 bolts. Once these are removed then the module should pull out.

As you stated before make sure the battery is disconnected and make sure when handling the module the exterior trim plate is always facing away from you.

I would wait for a second opinion of somebody else first mate before attempting to remove it.

Good luck

Not got a passenger side one so cant help there.

Have done the steering wheel a couple of times and thats easy. Just disconnect battery, both terminals, and wait 15 minutes.

Madness  good luck I think you would be better sticking to the standard set up.

Changing the heater itself is a ballache of the job.

Definitely good luck with that!

Got climatronic in the Passat and I prefer the simple system in the Golf!

Feel free to make a how to guide for anyone else mad enough to do it (I'm told by one person that it takes several weeks mind, so would be a big tutorial)
