Gearbox Whine
« on: 07 July 2011, 16:09 »

Just replaced my gearbox oil to the latest vw gear oil G0 70 726 A2 for golf 1.8t 02J gearbox , however after about 1000mls my 5th gear is whinning between 40-60 MLS PER HOUR and now 4th gear is also starting to whine slightly. Changed gear oil to improve my gearchanges which this latest oil did but didnt expect noisy box as well. What course of action can i take here as i did use genuine parts .

Well it is whining then it could be a bearing problem.

Would that be the diff bearings in the gearbox , also this latest oil is very thin almost like water not your average looking gear oil. So you think this oil had no part in gearbox noise?

Maybe the gearbox oil is too thin? Did you notice any leaks around the diff bearings?

Yes i had no whine before i changed to this new oil this whine has only happened after 1000mls on the new oil. Oil was changed for better gear selection when cold.

Is the viscosity different? Probably is.
