The peak of mk2 scrapping has been and gone, what's left is mostly being saved, there were mk3's in there but you failed to notice them as they would have dissolved...

Next time look for

Why are you shocked about mk4's in there?

not shocked at them being there as alot newer cars go to the scrapyard just at how bare and stripped they were, nothing worth having left...
there were a few rusty puddles there, probably part of my old mk3 i put there last month

Prob stripped and listed on ebay... Also don't forget that other mks rape 4's for parts, how many non mk4s are running 20vt's now.

I think there are more 20vt conversions in Ireland than there are mk4 GTIs
Not low enough mk5
Not on the road enough mk3

Exactly!  That'll be the the score in most of Europe one day.  I fear that one day there will be no such thing as a mk1 golf with a mk1 engine!

There was a column in Octane magazine this month suggesting a 'listed vehicle' scheme should be created, so certain cars remain as they were, rather than being cut about, or re-bodied, as otherwise all pre-war Bentleys will be open top and dark green eventually.

Thankfully I doubt all Golf1s will wind up as 20VTs although you might struggle to find any on standard height springs.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.
