thanks very much for the reply, so if i smash a window and gain access, would you say my key would start the car?

I reckon you'd start it, as the electronics for the locking unlocking isn't anything to do with the starting. But your car will be deadlocked, so you'll have to climb through a broken window.

One reason I'd never go for 'delocked' doors, as if you could get the key in, you'd be in.

mine does this now and again i just put key in the door turn left turn right and then my fob works its worth a try

regrettably its delocked so unable to do the above. im a lot more optimistic now anyway, thanks guys

Knackered door module in the drivers door by the sounds of it

You need to get it scanned as it will tell you exactly what's up with it 

Will a scan show up a door module? Thought the scan only covered things with parametric sensors.

My door module is shot also, but it'll let me unlock on the button, it's the locking that it won't do as it thinks the door is open, on my car anyway.

It does indeed    Using VAGCOM, go into Module 46; central convenience.  Scanned a MK4 last night that showed faults with 3 out of 4 doors

You need the full version to program keys
