MFA and Rev Counter Problem
« on: 04 July 2011, 20:43 »
I wanted to give rubjonnys digifant tuning guide a go, but I have been having a problem with my rev counter and MFA. When I start the car the rev counter works for maybe 5 seconds and then drops to zero and then when I try and use the MFA it just flicks up with some numbers and doesn't work properly or just doesn't respond at all. Everything on the left appears to work fine (speedo, indicators, battery light, etc).

I managed to get hold of another set of clocks off eBay and connected everything back up and turned the engine over. The rev counter and MFA now don't respond at all. But with the new clocks the indicator still works as does the battery light etc. So I am pretty sure that I have plugged the connector back into the clocks ok.

The right stalk wasn't changed that long ago because I had smoke coming out of my steering column. Had a look and the MFA stalk plastic housing had cracked and scorched the steering column. Replaced the MFA stalk and it worked fine, but I have had the Rev counter dropping off and MFA problem for quite a while. Running out of things to change. Possibly the new clocks are knackered, but it would be odd for them to be having the same problem as my old ones? The wipers on the MFA stalk also work fine for both sets of clocks.

Any suggestions, since I am running out of parts to swap?!

Cheers,

Dave.

I tried the trick of removing fuse 21 and replacing it and despite my skepticism it actually worked. All systems are now working including the MFA.
