cold start valve-please help!
« on: 02 July 2011, 17:53 »
hi all

I am interested in a mk 2 ive found, but the cold start valve isnt functioning properly?

Is this bad,easy to fix?
or
not too bad and not too costly to fix,bit out of my mechanical skills  to fix,so wil have to take to a garage.

Can anyone also recommend a good vw garage in the east/west sussex area that dont charge a fortune!

Thank you for any advice and help.

If its just the valve, then yes its easy, 2 allen key bolts, a 30second job. If its the wiring to it, it could be more involved, it could be the thermotime switch which is a sensor that switches it on and off, or its an electrical feed to the switch. Basically if that's all it is, don't be put off by the car at all, or pay someone to fix it!!

thanks for info mk2bal

The car has a few other bits to make it mint just trying to get some rough figures in my head about costing, cause might not be worth the money asked.

 and

Got to try and justify it to my wife why i spent £1300 on a 22 year old car which needs another grand spent on it before i want to drive it
She will never understand!

To be fair you could probably find a pretty damn decent 16v for that in the current climate. I'd definitely hunt high and low for a good' un with a clean body. My bro just bought a very tidy 8v g reg for 700quid, you could 2.0 16v it for a few hundred £ on top of that
