the old question....engine swap

just got my hands on mint mk1 cabrio, now i think of changing out the engine for a 16v abf possibly with a view to running a bbm screw compressor coz i love that sound!!

just looking for advice here as i am more use to mk3s and mk2s with regards engine mounts etc

not doing the vr6 route for weight reasons, may do the 1.8t route but i really fancy the screw compressor to to annoy the neighbours!!!

any advice for which 16v (i am thinking abf tho) etc

On a cabby any high powered engine swap is going to leave you with some interesting crabbing.

However, the 16v route is probably the preferred route, but 1.8T if you want power.

I would say 16v is the way to go. 1.8T will be too front heavy.

are 20vt units actually that much heavier?

i would go for the abf on throttle bodies or for abf with turbo, 16vt makes very good power.
16v breathe better than the 1.8t from what ive read
i would really like a supercharged 16v just for the sound

Yes to a degree but G60's need lots of love and money to keep them going, something more modern is the better bet.

Suppose it depends how the cars used, if its a daily, then you have a point. I'f it's not, old skool all the way!
