Thinking of getting a MKV Golf GTI

I currently have a 56 plate 1.6 fsi, and really want a GTI. I've found an 06 plate locally for sale, which I could easily do a straight swap with for mine... as it's done 125,000 miles (mines done 40k).

Basically I'm after advice!

Obviously having done a lot more miles it means it's a lot more likely to have problems, and probably more expensive ones. Are there any key parts that would be likely to fail?

125,000 to a 40k motor i wudnt swap imo. As good as the gti may be i'd rather trade urs in and pay a little bit on top if needed. 125,000 ur just walking into problems there surely?

That's what I wanna know really! Does seem nuts getting a much more heavily used car, but I really want a GTI, and don't have any cash lol

Well i wouldnt do what ur thinking, im sure most of the guys on here would tell u the same surely. Gti would be amazing to have but no point breaking the bank or getting urself into a sticky position buying someone else's problem.

Why dont u just save up a little :P

VAG cars can easily do high miles - 200k easy if looked after and not abused, but like others have said 40k vs 125k is a no brainer. can you afford a 55 plate with less miles?

i'd be hesitent also. my diesel has done 108,000 now, and i've started hitting problems now and again, wheel bearing, coolant leak ......

the engines will be solid if looked after, as saidabove. but other parts will wear also, and some could be an expesive repair just for extra power

Put your car up for sale at a reasonable price and it could possibly sell quick, then once you have the cash get yourself a gti. If I was you though I'd try get one with a few options as they make all the difference. Nav, Xenons and leather being my fave :smiley:

Nav can be retrofitted easily. Leather seats aren't too bad if you can source them. Xenons are a pain as you need the whole autolevelling/washing kit as well.

As above, it needs to have been immaculately looked after and even then I'd have reservations.

save up for a couple of months, or just stick £1500 on a 0% credit card, much better car with low mileage.
