I can honestly say I've never really found any decent stuff that lasts more than 3-4 weeks at best and the cheaper stuff comes off after the first wash.

Thats probably my problem as I always wash the car every week (sometimes twice a week) so I'm expecting the impossible.

I've just removed the whole kit from the car, Door Trims/Sill Covers/Wheelarch Spats/ and sprayed them Satin Black along with the black sections of the Bumpers and the Front Grille and now they look "as new".

It's a time consuming job as all the wheels have to come off to drill out the rivets and to replace them with new ones but its worth it in the end when you see the results, its always a good idea to T-Cut the car with the kit off before replacing everything. Its surprising as when everything is as Black as it should be it just seems to brighten up the whole car even making the paintwork look more shiny.

Im surprised no one's mentioned good old Back 2 Black

Easy to apply cos its spray on, and lasts for a good 2-3 weeks in my experience

the back to black I have lasts about 2 minutes lol. It's in the bottle so a sod to put on. The autoglym stuff still looks as black as the day I put it on a couple of weeks ago :)

I've tried it, its the expensive stuff in the white trigger spray bottle if its the same stuff I bought. Its decent stuff and probably is as good as the best out there but the problem with 15-20 year old black plastic is it fades to grey (feel a song coming on) so when its applied you still have nice shiny *grey* plastics.

Spend a weekend and remove the whole Kit and get the as new look, its worth it.

I'm gonna be sorting the vast expanse of grey plastic on a KA soon. I've used scuff cote on my gti but don't fancy doing all the placcy on a KA with a 1 inch square applicator.  So , which is best for a quick fix (selling it) for REALLY faded bits? to add to the problem some bits are faded more than others.

TRY THIS, believe it or not the best thing to use is a heat gun. Run it over all the plastics, i did it about 4 months ago to my mk3. It amazing. And its perminant. Just give it a try, you wont regrate it.

I still swear by autoglym bumper care, the gel stuff in a bottle not the spray one. I don't like any kind of spray stuff as it's impossible to get on without covering your freshly polished paintwork all around the plastics. The gel stuff on a kitchen sponge goes on easy and lasts quite a while.
Joe while I don't doubt that used engine oil does a grand job surely after it's been raining you end up with streaks of dirty engine oil all down the sides of your car. I understand used engine oil has a certain acidity to it, that can't be good for paintwork???

You got any pics of your dad's split ?
