Suggestions for brake pads and disks.
« on: 30 June 2011, 16:00 »
Hi guys

I just had my car in to Taber Services (recommended garage on this forum) for a pre MOT check and MOT test. He said that everything is fine but my rear brake pads and disk will need changing shortly, and the front pads and disk will need changing not too long after that.

The car will be in for its yearly service (even though it has only done 5000 miles since its last one) in a few months so I will ask Dan Taber to replace the brakes then.

I was just wondering if there is a better option than original? I know there will be better options, eg racing compounds ect, but I’m not looking for a brake that only works on the track, and I don’t want to break the bank (no pun intended) ether. All I’m looking for is decent set of front and rear pads and disks that are good for everyday use, but can also cope “when the going gets tough” shall we say  Dan can get a set of original parts form VW for me, but if I can supply a better pad and disk, then he is happy to fit them.

Any suggestions would be great, thanks.
Mrk V, GTI, 3dr, DSG, heated seats, winter pack, cruise control, rear parking sensors and now thanks to GizzyWizzy and SteveP in the MK6 section a RCD 510. Awesome!

Top bloke Dan, good mate of mine.

Standard disks and Ferodo DS 2500 pads will make a massive difference. Had them on my GTI and will have them on my R32 as soon as they need doing.

Yeah he is great, can’t rate him enough. My mum takes her Golf and my nan takes her Polo to him now after my recommendation.

I have heard of these pads, where is the best place to get them, or is it just a case of a Google search?

haven't got a quote for Dan yet as they don't need replacing just yet.

As for the Ferodo brake pads, it looks like they are meant for track day cars. I'm just look for a good road brake pad.

They say for track use as their is some regulation about road pad compounds, but they work as good on the road.
