Electric window wont work

Hi as my mk2 came out of its mot test last week with brake pipes and other really crap stuff the tester could find he informed me that the windows would't go up and sure enough they wouldn't but i managed to get them both up on the drive home i daren't put them down now though what could be wrong ? ive bought a new elec window relay but god knows where it goes haynes manual is rubbish ha ha and doesn't say on fuse cover either HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well as you said they do work,that proves the wiring and motors are ok, so it could be the switches sooted up from arcing over the years. Mine used to be dodgey, had to wiggle the buttons etc to get them to work, so I took them apart, cleaned them up and they're as good as new now..

check fuses

there is 2 one in main fuse box and a thermal one.

Also....check reverse lights work.....same circuit

well one of the switches is brand new and it still wouldn't go up could it be wiring? i would of thought if fuse had gone that they wouldn't work at all?

Hello mate - having similar issues..On the link below theres a coouple of pictures of where relay and thermo fuse is which might be helpful. I would also check that all plugs are plugged in tight on the back of the fuse box and make sure theres no moisture or anything.

I had a similar problem on the offside front window. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldnt, but I could always hear the motor attempting to shift the window.  I took out the mechanism and it turn out the sliding mechanism on the slider was damaged (I can't remember exactly how, was a while ago). In the end I had to replace the whole electic window mechanism.
