I always thought the Hill Hold was for DSG it appears you can enable it on the MT as well?

Yes, you can add Hill Hold Contol to 2010 MTs
2010 Golf GTD (170) CBBB, 5 Door, Shadow Blue (P6/D5Q), Flat Tyre Indicator, Basic Protection Pack + VCDS.

Auto hold doesn't work EVERY time. It only works on hills where the car senses the risk of rolling forward or backwards. You also need to come to a complete stop and the auto hold only stays on for a second or 2 which is enough time for you to drive, thus reducing the risk of clutch and handbrake control.

That's hill hold not auto hold.

Auto hold will hold you on any slope based on last applied brake pressure so even on a flat steve should be able to come to a stop and let go of the brake in his dsg and the car should stay put.mthe moment he touches the accelerator the car should creep away.

I have no idea it certainly should do it every time aslong as the auto hold light/feature is on.
